Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8

Website: Sony Creative Software

Sony Vegas Movie Studio is an industry leading movie making application that offers support for a large variety of video formats. It can handle the latest multi-channel audio and high-definition content, even including AVCHD and HDV.

Further features include mixing and editing, video composite creating and video restoration among others.

Here we use the free version: Platinum 8, to transcode a 1080p High-Definition 5.1 Channel AC3 audio DivX file into a 720p WMV9HD in CBR Compression at 25 fps with the audio converted into 192Kbps, 48KHz, 16-bit Stereo WMA9. Overall, the bitrate equates to around 5Mbps.

Having just said that about a low power encoding machine, Sony Vegas Movie Studio takes it straight back again - while with CnQ disabled the performance is pretty admirable and, where we'd expect, turned on then it's incredibly poor. AMD needs to sort out its load sensitivity here because it's literally twice as slow, indicating that it probably didn't jump out of its low power mode the entire time.

Maxon Cinebench 10 x64

Website: Cinebench

Maxon Cinebench is based on Maxon's popular animation software, Cinema 4D, which is used extensively by studios and production houses worldwide for 3D content creation. We've used the built-in CPU benchmark, which uses a 3D scene file to render a photo-realistic image of a concept bike. The scene makes use of various CPU-intensive features such as reflection, ambient occlusion, area lights and procedural shaders.

Cinebench is also highly threaded so, as a quad-core, the 9350e performs better than everything with fewer cores, but due to its low clock speed it can't keep up with the other quad-core processors. Enabling CnQ again causes a performance drop, but not one that's all that large.

The low core clock is what hinders the 9350e in a purely single-threaded situation.
